Pet friendly planning award | Dogs in the community | Puppy Tales

Here at Puppy Tales we are very interested in the further integration of animals into the community, as we expressly enjoy and believe in the benefits of our own pets. We have been keenly following the growing research that suggests that dog owners experience improved physical, social, mental and emotional health compared with non-owners. So when we came across the Pet Friendly Planning Award we were very excited.

Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, with almost two in every three homes accommodating a companion animal. It therefore makes perfect sense to incorporate ideas about pet friendliness into our plans for developing residential, commercial and public environments.

The 2012 Pet Friendly Planning Award will focus on the topic of best practice planning for Dogs and Public Open Space. Planners are invited to submit research, plans (including master plans), strategies or innovative solutions that address the needs of dogs and their owners in public open space.

The award value is $8,000, comprising of a $4,000 travel grant and $4,000 allowance. The winner of the award will be announced on World Town Planning Day in November 2012 and their project will be presented at the 2013 PIA National Congress.

The topic of Dogs and Public Open Space was inspired by research demonstrating that access to a local park with dog supportive features results in a number of broad community benefits such as healthy exercise for both owner and dog, increased social interaction, enhanced neighbourhood security and less nuisance behaviour from bored pets. Smart planning policies will account for pets and their owners, ensuring that their needs are integrated into open space planning.

? Acts at first point of contact for CareerHQ.org and triages requests from job seekers, employers, and others as appropriate ? either responding directly or by engaging other ABSI and/or ASAE staff, to ensure timely, accurate response.

Governance:

? Serves as a liaison to the ABSI and AIC Boards of Directors:

o Coordinates all communications to the boards.

? Supports the President and Director in all aspects of Board meeting preparation:

o Schedules ABSI and AIC board meetings and conference calls.

General Meeting & Event Planning:

Support of President and Director:

? Manages the President?s and Director?s day-to-day meeting logistics (scheduling, food, AV needs etc.).

? Assists President and Director with organization of contract and departmental record files, both electronic and hard-copy.

? Assists President and Director with making travel and other arrangements as needed.

Other:

Serves as a backup to the ABSI Program Management Coordinator as needed, which may include, but is not limited to: pulling lists for promotions, sending promotions, helping to conduct industry research, creating education session records in database, updating the ABSI web pages as needed, assisting with webinars and in-person events.

Deloitte says accountant's suicide unrelated to Standard Chartered

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Deloitte LLP said Sunday that the suicide of a New York accountant was unrelated to work for British bank Standard Chartered Plc.

Daniel Pirron, 57, was found dead of a gunshot to the head on August 13 after a passerby noticed the body in a Fairfield, Connecticut parking lot, a Fairfield Police spokeswoman said Sunday. A .38-caliber handgun, found near his body, was registered to Pirron.

Pirron worked as an accountant in the general counsel's office of Deloitte in New York City. In the wake of the death, The Telegraph newspaper in London suggested there was a link between Pirron's death and Deloitte's work for Standard Chartered, which drew the scrutiny of New York's banking regulator.

Standard Chartered on August 14 settled with the New York Department of Financial Services for $340 million after an inquiry into the bank's transactions tied to Iran. That inquiry had questioned work Deloitte had done for the bank. Deloitte has said its work was proper.

In a statement, a Deloitte spokesman on Sunday said, "Dan was a highly respected member of our office of general counsel who made many contributions to our firm. However, Dan was not involved in any way on our work for Standard Chartered Bank. Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time."

In an interview, Daniel Pirron's older brother, Michael, said Daniel had shown no sign he was considering suicide and that the timing of his brother's death raised questions as to whether it was related to work for Deloitte.

Michael Pirron said he didn't know specifically the cases his brother was handling for Deloitte. Michael Pirron said his brother was the main financial supporter for two daughters who are approximately 22 and 24 years old. "He loved his work," Michael Pirron said.
