LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Victor Garber came out of a closet he says he was never really in during an interview this week with an online publication.
The actor acknowledged he is in a long-term relationship with artist Rainer Andreesen, his partner of more than a decade.
Garber is best known for playing Sydney Bristow's father on ABC's "Alias" and for playing the doomed engineer in "Titanic." He is also a respected Broadway actor.
Garber confirmed to Greg Hernandez of Greg In Hollywood at last week's Television Critics Association event that he is gay, but seemed surprised by the question.
"I don't really talk about it, but everybody knows," he said, before adding, "He's going to be out here with me for the SAG Awards."
It doesn't quite rank alongside Jodie Foster's elliptical Golden Globes address on her sexuality that had much of Hollywood talking this week.
Instead of making a nationally televised speech, Garber's acknowledgement sits alongside the casual admissions of other actors like Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory") and Zachary Quinto ("Star Trek").
Moreover, although he hasn't discussed it frequently, he has mentioned the relationship previously and taken Andreesen to the Emmys and other public events. As the Huffington Post notes, Garber talked about his relationship with Andreesen in an interview with Forever Young News last year.
Garber's manager Bill Butler told TheWrap there was "nothing additional" to offer regarding the Greg In Hollywood piece.
